No. 2 hoops recruit Randle picks Kentucky
McKinney hometown resident and Prestonwood Christian Academy senior forward Julius Randle ended months and years of anticipation Wednesday afternoon when he committed to Kentucky in a ceremony televised live on ESPNU from the Prestonwood campus.
Randle had hats for all four of his finalists (Kentucky, Kansas, Florida and Texas) but speculation immediately favored the Wildcats as that was the only hat without a sticker on it and the lone one with a bend in it as if it had been tried on.
The hype is understandable. Once tabbed the top basketball recruit in the country for the Class of 2013 by ESPN, Randle remains a force in all the major rankings as he is slotted at No. 2 in the country by Rivals, No. 3 by ESPN and No. 5 by Scout.
Stay tuned for more on this momentous announcement.
Soccer sprinting to a finish
Only one game remains in the varsity boys and girls regular season for both Districts 10-5A and 13-4A. Various squads, like the McKinney Boyd boys and McKinney boys teams, have already clinched a playoff spot.
Several playoff seedings however, are still up in the air with Friday's final day of action looming. Stay tuned to this weekend's edition for the latest scores and news.

Collin County man among Fan Cave finalists
Plano West alum Mina Park is among the 52 finalists for the MLB Fan Cave 2013 competition.
Park is representing the Texas Rangers, with a chance at moving to New York to watch every baseball game of the upcoming season while blogging, interviewing players and making creative videos. The competition's top 30 finalists are selected through fan voting, the original audition submission and ability to generate media buzz.
Each finalist will be flown out to spring training in Arizona later this month. To vote for Park, go to: mlb.mlb.com/fancave/vote.jsp.
Nike Hoop Summit selects Randle
McKinney resident Julius Randle, a Prestonwood Christian Academy alum, has been selected for the Nike Hoop Summit on Apr. 20 in Portland, Ore.
"Julius was obviously selected based on his ability to play basketball, but more importantly based on his character," said Chris Mayberry, Prestonwood head coach. "He has kept such a positive attitude dealing with the adversity of his injury and will continue to be selected for honors and awards because of his character."
The Nike Hoop Summit is one of the premier high school basketball showcases, pitting the country's top seniors against a World Select Team.
Randle is no stranger to such competition, capturing a gold medal on Team USA at the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship last summer.
