Allen bowling headed to state

Allen will have plenty of representation Saturday and Sunday when the 12th Annual Texas High School Bowling Club State Tournament commences at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth.

The Eagles have their boys and girls teams competing as well as several individuals.

Action gets under way Saturday with the boys team competition, where the two-time state champ Eagles (2002, 2008) are seeded No. 7. Allen also has sophomore Bailey Mays (No. 9 seed), sophomore Matt Orchard (No. 27) and junior Jackson Burke (No. 30) set to take part in the individual competition, which is Sunday.

That is the same day as girls team competition.

The three-time champion Lady Eagles (2004, 2005, 2009) are seeded No. 5. That team includes seniors Beka Cowan (No. 18) and Paige Morrow (No. 38), who will participate in Saturday's individual state tourney.

Lovejoy softball at No. 21

After years of strong runs in Class 3A, Lovejoy softball is proving to be a formidable foe in its first season at Class 4A.

The latest evidence of that comes via the Lady Leopards' No. 21 ranking in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll. Lovejoy returns to the diamond at 7 p.m. Friday on the road versus Royse City.

Lady Eagles winless in 10-5A

A hiatus from district softball play wasn't enough to fix Allen's ails as the team dropped to 0-3 in 10-5A Tuesday night with a 7-3 loss to McKinney Boyd.

The Lady Eagles host the other winless team in district (McKinney) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Revolution fall to 0-2

When the Texas Revolution host the Tri-Cities Fever at 7:05 p.m. Friday from the AEC, they'll be in search of their first win of the IFL season.

That comes following a two-game road trip to open 2013, which dealt another setback Sunday in a 51-26 loss to the Chicago Slaughter.

Tied with 1:05 remaining in the first half, 20-20, the Revolution were victimized by a pair of Marcus Jackson interceptions that were converted into 14 Chicago points for a 34-20 halftime lead.

Texas was outscored in the second half, 17-6, en route to its second straight loss -- despite giving up just 122 yards of offense.

The Slaughter capitalized on four interceptions.

Mon Williams accounted for 60 yards on seven grabs while Keith Smith added a 5-yard touchdown catch and 42-yard kickoff return for a score.

Brandt to Belmont Abbey

Aerial Brandt has found her college.

The Allen senior has pledged to Belmont Abbey, a private, liberal arts college in North Carolina.

Brandt, a defender and midfielder who plays club for Infiniti FC, heads to the Lady Crusaders with a strong academic resume too as she possesses a 3.29 GPA.

Up All Night tennis returns

Allen tennis will host its 7th annual Up All Night fundraiser April 26.

The event operates as the title suggests with players staying up throughout the evening and engaging in a variety of competitions to raise money for the program and the Foundation for Allen Schools. Formerly reserved for the varsity, Allen ISD middle school players were brought into the fold last year.

Hall of Honor nominations

Though the Allen ISD began enshrining people into its Hall of Honor when Eagle Stadium opened, the district is still seeking future nominees.

Candidates must be ex-athletes, employees, teams or supporters of AISD. They must have graduated from Allen at least 10 years ago and demonstrated good character throughout their post-high school athletic career. If a nominee is deceased, a representative of his/her family may accept the honor.

Nomination forms can be found at: allenisd.org.

Nominations should include as much detail as possible to help choose the best candidates. The selection committee will name recipients at an annual AISD Hall of Honor banquet.
