State Rep. Cindy Burkett (R - Sunnyvale) has joined the House Manufacturing Caucus, a legislative group of the Texas House of Representatives set to focus on the issues facing manufacturers in the state. Burkett joined the caucus on Friday.
"Manufacturing businesses are incredibly important to District 113 and the state of Texas," Burkett said. "I look forward to working with this bipartisan caucus on such an important Texas industry."
Texas manufacturers contributed $192 billion to the Texas economy in 2011 and one-third of all corporate taxes collected by state and local governments, according to a news release.
The House Manufacturing Caucus is able to provide educational opportunities and information to the representatives on policy issues important to the manufacturing sector. In addition, the caucus will also work with other caucuses to identify, research, and build coalitions to help resolve social and infrastructure issues to ensure that Texas remains competitive and attracting new business to the state.
"Our caucus will help to educate its members on the impact of proposed legislation on manufacturing," Chairman Jim Murphy said. "This state's manufacturing industry is driving our state economy through innovative technologies and significant economic investment and we want to see that continue."
