Seeking to build upon its impressive resume, Cottonwood Creek Marina has reached up into the branches of the family tree.

The patriarch of the Miller family, who has been in the marina business in North Texas for more than 60 years, is Ben Miller. He opened Cottonwood Creek Marina on Lake Lewisville in 2003. Miller promoted his son, Ryan, to manage the marina at the beginning of 2013 following 11 months of overseeing the operation pertaining to the marina's new boat rental aspect.

Ryan Miller's history in the marina industry includes working with CASA of Travis County in Austin, as well as at Send Hope in Puerto Lempira, Honduras. Jennifer Morris, who has been with Cottonwood Creek Marina since its opening, will continue in her role of managing the leasing office and ships store.

"We believe this move will enable Jennifer and I to be more focused on specifics that pertain to our customers needs," Miller said. "It's sort of divide and conquer, if you will. We will be able to do some things like the Customer Appreciation activities that we have planned for this summer, such as a celebration for our 10th anniversary."

Cottonwood Creek Marina was named Marina of the Year in 2004, 2007 and 2010 by the Marina Association of Texas, an award available to a marina every third year. Cottonwood Creek Marina has also been named Business of the Year by the Little Elm Chamber of Commerce.

Miller noted several other changes, which include the addition of 12 new 59-foot boat slips that include 9 feet of private decking, as well as 12 new 24-foot slips. The marina is also now offering day rentals for water toys like 2012 Sea Ray ski boats, Sunchaser pontoons and Yamaha Waverunners, as well as ski rentals and inner tubes. The marina will continue to offer boat storage for crafts up to 50 feet, a full-service gas dock and a ships store open year-round.

"We've spent the winter getting the marina nice and clean and ready to go," Miller said. "Jennifer and I are also implementing a website re-design for our boat rentals using a group based out of Little Elm called Yellow 7."

One of the reasons Cottonwood Creek Marina was accorded its Business of the Year honor by the Little Elm Chamber of Commerce was for hosting the annual Jet Ski Adventure on behalf of the Little Elm Area Food Bank. The marina also provides boat storage for local law enforcement agencies. Both the Town of Little Elm and the Denton County Sheriff's Department dock emergency rescue craft at the marina.

"It's been a good partnership for us as well, just for the safety aspect for the marina," Miller said.
